scriptures for overcoming compulsive behavior

Prayer for Deliverance:

Dear Lord, I confess that I have been turning my life over to things that do not satisfy; to things that have built a wall around my heart and have hurt my relationship with You. I repent of those things now and give them over to you. Today, I lay down my compulsive behaviors at the foot of the cross. Please take them from me and help me to rely on You for the strength, comfort and assurance I need each moment of every day. Help me to walk according to the Word of God by the power of the Holy Spirit that I may be victorious in every way. In the precious Name of Jesus, AMEN

Scriptures for Overcoming Compulsive Behaviors:

I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate. I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law is good. But I can’t help myself, because it is sin inside me that makes me do these evil things. Romans 7:15-17

Trusting oneself is foolish, but those who walk in wisdom are safe. Proverbs 28:26

The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit. Psalms 34:17-18

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Whether we are high above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38–39

But this precious treasure - this light and power that now shines within us - is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don't know why things happen as they do, but we don't give up and quit. 2 Corinthians 4:7-8

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but be a new and different person with a fresh newness in all you do and think. Then you will learn from your own experience how his ways will really satisfy you. Romans 12:2

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1

So don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you.

1 Peter 5:7

It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success come from God. He is the one who has enabled us to represent his new covenant. This is a covenant, not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old way ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:5-6

For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:13

Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live! Deuteronomy 30:19

I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. Psalms 40:1-2

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.

Romans 12:1

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. Proverbs 3: 5-6

The name of the LORD is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. Proverbs 18: 10

But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

O LORD, you alone can heal me; you alone can save. My praises are for you alone! Jeremiah 17:14

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live my life in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
